Summer Night Sketch Fest

“Beach Witch” by Jenna Wing-hu

Jenna Wing-hu did this quick digital sketch inspired by Becca Moore’s prompt. This delicate and whimsical Beach Witch sports appropriate coverage in her wide-brimmed hat.

“Fire Fairy Dance” by Becca “Boo” Moore

This playful and dancing fire fairy was sketched by Becca “Boo” Moore – and you can pick up the original pencil drawing on copy paper for only $15.

“Gizelle and Conall” by Ellen Million

Ellen drew two of her favorite characters from the novel Tropical Christmas Stag: Gizelle and Conall! She said, “I couldn’t resist the excuse to sketch these two. It’s been WAY too long since I just sat down and sketched!”

“Grey Fox” by Mayumi Ogihara

This sultry and intense fellow drawn by Mayumi Ogihara was inspired by William “Kenku” Swiftfoot’s prompt, “Grey Fox.” Commenting on her digital sketch, she shared, “He might be featured in a fantasy male portrait colouring book I’m thinking of creating in the future.” We hope she does!

“Ocean Communion” by Shelley M. Walker

Shelley M. Walker drew this vital and wild beach witch taking part in an “Ocean Communion.” Her piece is colored pencil on paper.

#EMGSketchFest 96 Saturday!

Welcome to Sketch Fest Saturday afternoon, everyone! We hope you’ve enjoyed a leisurely morning and found some time for creativity. To entice you to join our creative weekend, I’ve got some sketches from the gallery to feature for you! Let’s get to it.

“Highlander” by Ellen Million

We start with this piece by the founder of the Sketch Fest feast, Ellen Million! Ellen created “Highlander,” a cheeky hunk of the shapeshifter persuasion. She’s selling the final inked version of this sketch as well!

“Mangrovians” by Kir Talmage

Kir Talmage, inspired by “the swamp mermaid” gave us this fantastic mermaid in her mangrove grotto, joined by nanatee. “Mangrovians” is pencil on ACEO-sized sketchpaper.

“Steampunk Mermaid” by MrsFriSco

This is MrsFriSco’s first Sketch Fest, and she’s given us a finely behatted mermaid! “Just a coral reef mermaid finding steampunk flotsam and jetsam – she is trying her best to mimic the fascinating air-breathers’ fashion with her ocean finds, some of them even genuine articles!” This sketch is titled “Steampunk Mermaid” is 12×24 pencil on 140lb cold press paper.

“Garden of the City” by Willow

Shell’s very keen daughter Willow took Amy Sue Stirland’s prompt of “garden landscape” and drew this pretty landscape of flowers and fish! “Garden of the City.”

“Tonight We Ride” by Becca “Boo” Moore

Tonight We Ride” is a fantastic dragonrider inked sketch shared by Becca “Boo” Moore! Look at that armor, and those faces – this pair means business. I wouldn’t get in their way!

“Fantasy Violinist” by Amy Sue Stirland

Our last featured illustration this afternoon is “Fantasy Violinist” by Amy Sue Stirland! Inspired by Julie Rabischung’s prompt, Amy comments that she thinks her fantasy violinist is reminiscent of Lindsey Stirling! We have to agree. This illustration is gouache on 5×7 toned tan paper.

Welcome to Sketch Fest Saturday 92!

Have you been enjoying your Saturday afternoon? We have! There are some spectacularly creative pieces in the #EMGSketchFest 92 gallery that you’re really missing out on if you haven’t been participating.

You don’t have to create anything to join in Sketch Fest – you can just turn up to admire the gallery and share your thoughts on social media! (Use our official hashtag, #EMGSketchFest, if you do.) And if you do create, it doesn’t have to be paintings or sketches – you can do sculpting, knitting, crochet, jewelry-making, whatever you’d like!

“Look at My Mushrooms!” by Shelley M. Walker

Shelley M. Walker shared a fairy with fetching mushroom, flower, and grass foliage atop its adorable head. “Look at my mushrooms!” they cry. How can we not?

“The Queen of the Night” by Mayumi Ogihara

The Queen of the Night” and her compelling gaze is depicted courtesy of Mayumi Ogihara’s talent and Kathy Nutt’s “Crow Royalty” prompt! This work-in-progress is also up for grabs – Mayumi will be selling the original sketch for $27! 5×7-inch graphite sketch on Bristol.

“Crow Royalty” by Katerina Koukiotis

Speaking of “Crow Royalty,” Katerina Koukiotis brought us a chibi Jon Snow with tiny Ghost! He may know nothing, but we know he’s the most adorable Crow. 5×7-inch ink sketch.

“Ethereal Barn Owl” by Renee Erickson

You can almost feel the wind coming off of Renee Erickson’s “Ethereal Barn Owl“! Renee was inspired by Mayumi Ogihara’s prompt “Ethereal Owl”: “As soon as I read this prompt, the image of a barn owl with the back light filtering through it’s feathers came to mind. Thank you for the prompt Mayumi, I had fun painting this.” The original 12×16-inch oil on canvas may be available for purchase later, so check back!

“Black Unicorn Under a White Full Moon” by Amy Sue Stirland

Our last featured illustration for now is “Black Unicorn Under a White Full Moon” by Amy Sue Stirland! Amy’s notes read: “Doesn’t he look just majestic on that rise?!?” Yes. Yes, he does. “I was thinking of making him darker then realized that I liked being able to see his details. I might make an ACEO that has a full silhouette.” This 5×7-inch black and white pen inks and washes on tinted art paper can be purchased for $17!
