Work by: Trish

Trisha Leigh Shufelt is a self-taught artist, whose artistic endeavors have led her on a varied path of creative expression. Jewelry designer, painter, and sculptor, are just a few of the hats she has chosen to wear over the years.

"The turn of a leaf, the red cap on a fly argaric, the bark on a tree-all of these things speak Faerie to me."

As a sculptor…Known as "the mushroom lady" to her peers and fans, Trisha adds a bit of charm and whimsy to her ooak mushroom character creations. Each creation is based in part on actual specimens, which are researched in order to stay true to the characteristics of the mushroom. The face is typically influenced by the mushroom common name. Each sculpture is meticulously hand-sculpted and painted, utilizing the finest blend of polymer clay and heat-set oil paints. Items found in nature are often used to give the piece an overall woodsy feel. She has even created a "Mushroom of Faerie Field Guide" book. And while she also sculpts Faeries, and has recently developed a line called Bloomin Pixies TM, it is her love of the fungi she treasures the most.

"Mushrooms give us a glimpse of Faerie, something we can physically see, magically appearing overnight, and oftentimes disappearing the next. Mushrooms give us a taste of faerie itself."

As a Jewelry Designer…Art Nouveau and Faerie are two of the elements that inspire Trisha's Faerie Court Portal jewelry. The focal point of each piece is a hand-painted glass stone. Brass findings, polymer clay, and bead work often accompany these unique designs. She has had the privilege of combining her jewelry designs with the art of Lisa Steinke and Dorothy Wallace.

Fledgling painter…

Fledgling painter…While sculpting mushrooms is Trisha's first love, she has recently discovered a love for watercolor painting, finding inspiration in her dreams, music, and fairy tales of old.

As for what is on the horizon?...Anything that sparks her inner fae!
